Attachment of Health Visitors to General Practitioners
Arrangements have been made to commence in January 1966
for a health visitor to be attached to a group practice. She will
visit at the request of the doctors and also advise at their infant
welfare clinic.
Health Visitors' Training
In September 1965 an important change in the training of
the health visitor was introduced. The Royal Society of Health
ceased to be responsible for the examination of the student health
visitor and responsibility for this duty became that of the newly
established council for the training of health visitors. At the
same time a new syllabus designed to cater for the much extended
range of the health visitor's work was introduced. This syllabus
is divided into five sections, as follows:
Section I Development of the Individual
Section II The Individual in the Group
Section III Development of Social Policy
Section IV Social Aspects of Health and
Disease
Section V Principles and Practice of
Health Visiting.
A further feature of the new training scheme was the
introduction of fieldwork instructors. For this purpose one health
visitor in the borough was selected for a course of training.
During the year two student health visitors were admitted to the
Surrey County Council Course and did their practical training in the
borougho
Immigrant Health
The medical officer of health is notified by airports and
seaports of new arrivals in the country and the address to which they
are going.
The health visitors then attend to offer advice on services
and persuade them to register with a general practitioner and to have
a chest X-ray if this had not been done on entry.
75 such immigrants were visited during the year.
