REGISTRATION OF NURSING HOMES
Since 1st April 1965, the Borough Council has been the
registration authority for nursing homes under Part VI of the Public
Health Act 1936, and since then one additional home, providing 25
beds, has been registered,,
At the end of the year there were five registered nursing
homes in the borough and these provided a total of 108 beds for
chronic sick and medical patients. None provides any maternity beds.
LICENSING OF NURSES' AGENCIES
On the 1st April 1965 the Borough Council took over the
powers of the Surrey County Council with regard to the licensing of
persons who carry on agencies for the supply of nurses under the
Nurses' Agencies Act 1957. Such licences expire on the 31st
December each year and consideration has to be given to their renewal.
At the end of the year three such agencies were licensed by the
Borough Council.
Fees for licences are as follows:
Application for a new licence £2.2s.0d
Application for renewal of
existing licence £l.ls.0d
Alteration to licence 2s.6d
The Council impose conditions upon the grant of such
licences in order to secure the appropriate conduct of the agency and
regularise the fees charged by the agency for the services of the
nurses employed,, Refusal to grant a licence could be on one of the
following grounds:
l. Applicant under 21 years of age or
unsuitable to hold a licence.
2. Premises unsuitable.
3. Agency has been or is being
improperly conducted.
4. The agency has committed offences
under the statutes regulating the
conduct of such agencies.
Applicants for new licences or the renewal of old ones
have the right to be heard by the licensing authority before any
application is refused and they also have a right of appeal to a
Court of Summary Jurisdictiono
