10. ATMOSPHERIC POLLUTION .
Clean Air Act 1956.
Smoke Control Areas. Kingston upon Thames No. 5. Maiden & Coombe
No.5 and Norbiton Estate No.1 Smoke Control Orders became operative
on the 1st October. 1950. They cover approximately 267 acres in the
Villiers Road district of Kingston. the Pembury Avenue district of
Worcester Park and the Norbiton Estate.
The number of premises affected is as follows:-

In August. the Council made Smoke Control Orders No. 6, 7 and 8. These were confirmed by the Minister of Housing and Local Government in November and come into operation on 1st October, 1966. Particulars of these areas are as follows:-

During the year survey work was started on Area 9 in the George Road,
Coombe area and Area 10 in the Kings Road. Kingston upon Thames area, with
a view to the making of Orders which should be operative on 1st October,
1967 .
In May 1966 the Council approved a time table designed to make smoke
control orders covering the whole of the Borough by 1978 .
