During the year 598 inspections were made; of these 146 were general
inspections to shops and catering establishments and 45 were to offices.
General inspections are comprehensive and premises which have been the
subject of such action would, upon completion, comply with all the requirements
of the Act which are at the moment in force.
Prior to amalgamation, the staff employed by the constituent Boroughs
was insufficient to undertake the duties of the Act and appointments for
this purpose were deferred until the new Borough had been created. In July
one Technical Officer was appointed and authority was obtained to make a
further appointment after the 1st April, 1966.
