Other Foods which were the subject of Complaint.
Joint of Pork. The dark spots on this joint were caused by the rupture
of small blood vessels which occasionally occurs at the time of slaughter.
Jar of Dressed Crab. The manufacturers apologised for the inclusion
of shell in the article and promised to take greater care in their checking
procedure.
Nail in Walnut Cake,, The manufacturers had been worried for some time
about the possibility of a nail entering this product, due to the way in
which some of the ingredients were packed. With this in mind, they had
just previously installed a metal detector at some considerable cost and
gave assurances that the occurrence would not be repeated.
Quality of Hamburger Steak. The complainant alleged that there was no
particle of meat in the small portion she ate. Formal samples were taken
at the restaurant and analysed but were found to be genuine. It seemed
obvious that proper mixing of the ingredients was not being carried out,,
and the proprietor was advised accordingly.,
