Outwork. The following table gives details of work which is carried on in private dwelling houses. The conditions obtaining have been found to be satisfactory.

9. CAMPING SITES.
There are no camping sites within the Borough.
10. ATMOSPHERIC POLLUTION.
Clean Air Act, 1956 - Smoke Control Areas. During the year the
Corporation decided to carry out a programme which, over a period of
years, would make the whole Borough a smoke control area.
The preliminary work with regard to Area No. 1 was completed
in December and an application was made to the Minister of Housing and
Local Government for permission to make the appropriate Order. This
area is in the centre of the town and extends southwards from the
railway to the junction of South Lane with Portsmouth Road, and eastwards
from the river to a boundary on the east which is formed by Clarence
Street, Eden Street and Brook Street.
The Area comprises the following premises -

Industrial " 15
Other " 20
This involves the adaptation of 335 appliances and the replacement of
approximately 300 tons of bituminous fuel by smokeless fuel.
