Tbmato Soup - Dehydrated. It was reported that the tomato solids
content of this soup mix amounted to 10 per cent and when prepared
according to instructions the soup, as consumed, would contain the
equivalent of about 17 per cent of tomatoes. &ood quality tomato
soups prepared in the home or commercially in cans contain a far
higher proportion of tomatoes and it was considered doubtful whether
the description Tomato Soup was justifiable.
No action was taken on this particular sample as it was thought
advisable to await the result of negotiations between the Trade and
the Local Authorities Joint Advisory Committee on Food Standards.
It is understood that discussions on this and other soups are at
present in progress.
