Food Hygiene Regulations 1955. During the period under
review the supervision of food premises continued satisfactorily.
The very high standard which has been achieved is the result of
the excellent co-operation which existed between the managements
concerned and the Public Health Inspectors. The maintenance of
good food handling practice depends on continuous effort. In the
catering and food retailing trade there are frequent changes in
staff. In such circumstances regular routine visiting by the
Public Health Inspectors is essential to ensure the continuance of
satisfactory methods of food hygiene.
As with other matters with which the Department is concerned,
when plans and proposals are submitted for the alteration of
existing, or the establishment of new, businesses. it is possible
to ensure that the premises will comply with the Regulations in
the first instance. This service is appreciated by the proprietors.
It was necessary to undertake legal proceedings for contraventions
of the Food Hygiene Regulations, 1955 in the case of a
bakehouse in the town. In accordance with the request of the
Minister of Health, the under-mentioned particulars of the case
are included:-
Information was laid against the owner in respect of three
contraventions of Regulation 6, three of Regulation 8(a) and one of
Regulation 16. The defendant pleaded guilty to the contravehtion
of Regulations 8(a) and 16 and was fined a total of £20. The
other summonses were not proceeded with.
Information was laid against an employee at the bakery in
respect of contraventions of Regulations 9(d) and (e). A plea of
guilty was made on his behalf and a fine of £5. on each summons
was imposed.
During the year 75 Notices were served under these Regulations
and 80 were complied witho The following tabulated statement shows
the nature of the Notices served and complied.
