In addition to the instrument previously referred to, the
Corporation maintains two deposit gauges which were located, after
consultation with the Department of Scientific and Industrial
Research, in Canbury Gardens and Tiffin Girls' School respectively.
They are, for the purposes of report, referred to as 'A' and 'B'.
The following tables give the results of analysis, together
with rainfall and wind readings. The figures are from observations
made to show the effect when the prevailing wind was blowing from
industrial sources towards the recording stations.
With regard to the figure for June in respect of the instrument
at Canbury Gardens, this was exceptional and was thought to be due to
the dislodgment of a portion of solid matter from the chimney of the
Power Station. The high reading for this instrument was essentially
local in character and no corresponding increase was recorded in the
other gauges in the district. For this reason the figure has not been
included in calculating the totals and averages.
