FOOD AND DRUGS ACT, 1938.
Details of samples submitted to the Public Analyst
during the year are given in the tabulated statement.
The following are the results of action taken in respect
of samples which were the subject of adverse comment.
*Butter flavoured with Rum- The Analyst commented that
this sample contained spice which was not declared on the label
as one of the ingredients, as is required by the Labelling of
Pood Order, 1953. Upon the matter being drawn to their notice
the makers agreed to make the necessary amendments to the label.
*Pork pies- These samples were taken as the result of a
complaint concerning a perk pie which it was stated was sold in
a mouldy condition. No visible mould growths were detected on
one pie, but in the other, mould judged to be at least four
days old, was founds. Following upon the institution of legal proceedings,
the firm concerned in the manufacture and sale of the
pie were fined £5 with £4.4.0. costs.
