The approximate infant mortality rate for 1956 and the rates since 1952 are shown for purposes of comparison.

It will be seen from the following figures that since the war ended the Quinquennial Infant Mortality Rate was more than halved by 1950, and has since dropped even further.

The following are the numbers in age groups of Kingatonupon-Thames
children who died during 1956 before reaching the
age of one year, together with the cause of death.
The very favourable Infant Mortality Rate of 1955 has not been attained this year owing to the occurrence of 4 deaths of infants between the age of 1 month-1 year, none of which could reasonably be said to be preventable. The only preventable infant death was one abandoned at birth.
Age | Total Deaths | Prematurity | Cerebral Haemorrhage | Congenital Heart Disease | Cardiac Failure | Congenital Deformities | Icterus Neonatorum | Suppurative Broncho Pneumonia | Diabetes Mellitua | Meningocele | Inhalation of Birth Fluids |
