INSPECTION AND SUPERVISION OF FOOD.
Section E.
(a) Milk Supply.
There are no milch herds in the borough and all milk
has to be brought into the town,, The supply is satisfactory,
from the point of view of quality as well as quantity.
With the exception of a very small quantity of T.T.
milk delivered in a small area and a bulk supply which is
brought in to a dairy to be pasteurised, the whole of the
supply of milk in the town is heat treated.
The value of publicity has shown itself in the improvement
which has taken place in the matter of returned milk
bottles. The average housewife complies with the request of
the dairyman to rinse and cleanse the milk bottle before
returning it to the roundsman or shop. It would be a great
advantage to the dairymen as well as to the consumers if
bottles from Canteens, catering establishments and more
especially, schools, could be returned in a clean condition.
It is not good training for children who will in due course
be called upon to manage their own homes, to be shown so
bad an example as can be seen day after day when bottles are
collected from school. Bottles are returned in varying condition-some
part filled, many still containing straws, and
few, if any, rinsed.
