Generally speaking, the standard of maintenance of
the properties is good and, with the exception of three
premises which are subject to Saniary Notices an the present
time, the properties in Fassett Road and Nos. 87-97, Surbiton
Road, call for no further action by the Corporation.
The same comment applies to Nos. 63-79, Penrhyn
Road, where, with the exception of rooms used for business
storage purposes, the property is well maintained. It is
in Southsea Road that one finds the lowest standard of
maintenance of cottage property in the area and it should
be realised that these properties are probably the oldest
of any in the area, approaching ninety years. These cottages
are already receiving the attention of the Public Health
Committee under the provisions of the Public Health Act.
It is anticipated that the action already taken, or to be
taken, will result in these properties being brought up to
a reasonable standard sufficient to tide over the next five
or so years.
With regard to the shop properties in Surbiton
Road, all of which have dwelling accommodation on the
upper floors, the general condition varies from that of a
high standard, down to the lowest possible standard in the
case of Noso 59/63, which require a very heavy expenditure
in order to render them fit for habitation# It should be
remembered that this terrace received damage as a result
of enemy action and that some repairs remain outstanding.
No. 85, Surbiton Road, which was the property
under consideration when this report was requested, is a
large detached house let off at present in thirteen flats
or combinations of rocms0 The property is maintained in
fair internal condition with the exception of the basement
roomso "Externally, repairs are required and this matter is
being dealt with by the Public Health Committee.

The three highest numbers of persons per house refer to large premises sub-let into flats.
