The infantile mortality rate of 22 is lower than the
rats of 29 for 1946. It is lower than any other infantile
mortality rate recorded for Kingston in the last fifteen years.
It is lower than the figure of 41 for England and Wales, and
lower than the figure of 37 for the London Administrative
County Area. This trend is satisfactory and is a measure of
the success of infant and maternal welfare practice.
Ophthalmia Neonatorum.
One case was notified during 1947. Special arrangements
have been made for the admission of serious cases to
Swanley L.C.C. Hospital, Kent, but it was not necessary to use
this service during the year.
