The St. John Ambulance dealt with a considerable
number of accident, private and sickness cases throughout
the year. This service proved invaluable as a supplement
to the Corporation Accident Ambulance Service, and its value
is indicated by the fact that 560 cases were carried
of which 92 were accident cases within the borough
and 12634 miles were covered.
This is entirely a voluntary service for night
runs and at weekends. There was one paid driver for day
duty.
