A part-time Consultant, Mr. J,V. O' Sullivan, F.R.C.S.
was available in the Borough for consultation for any case
of midwifery or puerperal pyrexia where the confinement
took place at home. It was not found necessary to call
upon the services of the consultant in this respect during
the year.
(b) (i) Maternal Mortality.
The Medical Officer of Health investigates all maternal
deaths, and obtains full reports from the practitioner attending.

There were two maternal deaths during 1946. The figures for the years 1942-1945 are given for comparison:
