(i) General Statisties.
Area in Acres 1,390
Population (Registrar General) 35,760
Number of inhabited houses (approx.) 11,028

(ii) Social Conditions.
The character of the Borough has not changed
during the year. During the latter half of 1945,
there was a gradual change over from wartime to
peacetime production. The chief industries of
the area are general and motor engineering and
manufacture and repair of aircraft.
The Manager of the Local Employment Exchange
reports that there was little or no unemployment
during 1945, but towards the end of the year there
was a marked tendency on the part of women to
leave industry.
The district is still residential in character
over the greater part of the area.
