Scarlet Fever, There was a considerable drop in the
number of civilian cases of Scarlet fever notified in
1944 and no deaths occurred. Most of the cases were
school children. It was found necessary to send 34
of the 49 notified cases to Hospital. All made a
good recovery. No "Return" cases occurred.
Diphtheria. Seven cases of Diphtheria were notified
in 1944, throe from the Kingston County Hospital, and
four from within the Borough. Of the four from the
Borough one aged 22 years had not been immunised, two
were children under school age, one of whom had "been
immunised two years previously hut had not "been post
shick tested. The other, two years previously had
an attack of laryngeal diphtheria. The occurrance
of a second attack of diphtheria is most unusual.
Steady work is "being done to immunise the school
and pre-school population against diphtheria and the
following table shows the stage reached by the end of
the year 1944.
