Regulations as to Food.
By the Defence (Sale of Pood) Regulations, 1943,
the Minister of Pood become the authority to make regulations
for imposing requirements as to labelling of food
and generally for regulating the composition of Pood.
Such powers were exercised during 1944 in the following
Orders:-
The Food Standards (General Provisions) Order 1944.
" " " (Self-Raising Flour) " "
" " " (shredded Suet) " "
" " " (Baking Powder & Golden Raising
Powder) Order 1944.
" " " (Mustard) (No.2) Order 1944.
" " " (preserves) Order. 1944.
all of which are together kwun as the Food Standards Orders,
1944.
The Labelling of Pood Order 1944.
The Minister of Pood was also responsible for this
Order which is very comprehensive in character and contains
important provisions. The Order carries into effect the
policy announced in paragraphs 8 and 9 of the White Paper
presented to Parliament in Movember 1943. The Order was
not operative before the end of 1944 and further comment is
not necessary at this time.
CONCLUSION.
The above report is but a very brief and attenuated
description of some of the activities of your sanitary inspectors
during 1944. Much must remain unrecorded.
What has been written, however, will at least serve to
indicate that some useful work of an unspectacular character
was accomplished, by the help and support of the members of
Corporation and my colleagues.
I am, Ladies and Gentlemen,
Your obedient Servant,
Harold T.Perry,
F.S.I.A.
Chief Sanitary Inspector.
Guildhall,
Kingston-upon-Thames.
