Apart from what vras in fact the meat rations
at the depot, there were other Ministry of Food Emergency
Pood Stocks in the Borough which wore visited, and inspected,
periodically.
One of the moro difficult tasks encountered
during the year was the salvaging of war damaged food
stocks. In one incident alone, (Acre Road, 21st July)
approximately 16 tons of mixed food stuffs were removed
from tho site to the disinfection station where, after
sorting, cleaning and careful examination no loss than
15 tons were salved and utilised for human consumption.
All condemned foodstuffs as far as possible.wore
disposed of for animal feeding purposes or for conversion
into fertilisers.
