SECTION .B.
General Provision of Health Services
1. (i) Public Health Officers.
The Staff of the Public Health Department is as shown in
preface to the Report. Changes of staff during the years under
review have been recorded in the preface to the Report,
(ii) (a) Laboratory Facilities.
From 1st January, 1939, to the commencement of the war
bacteriological examinations were carried out by Dr,D.S.Murray,
by arrangement, but on the outbreak of war Dr. Murray's laboratory
was taken over by the Ministry of Health as part of the Emergency
Pathological Service. In effect there have been no differences
as specimens for examination have been sent in exactly the same
way as previously. In addition bacteriological examinations
of milk are undertaken by the Clinical Research Association, and
samples under the Foods and Drugs Acts arc submitted to the Public
Analyst.
(b) Ambulance Facilities.
(1) For infectious cases:
Cases removed to Wimbledon Isolation Hospital are
transported by the Motor Ambulance attached to that Hospital
(2) For non-infectious and accident cases:
A Motor Ambulance is provided by the Corporation,
Accident cases are removed free, but a charge is made
for its use for private cases.

During the period under review the following number of accident cases and private cases were removed by this ambulance:

There is, in addition, an ambulance which is maintained
by 124th Kingston Ambulance Division and 96th Kingston Nursing
Division of the Order of St .John of Jerusalem, and which is used
to a great extent for the conveyance of maternity cases, by
private arrangement.
(c) Nursing in the Home.
(l) General. This is carried out, in the main, by
District Nurses from the Kingston Nursing Association, and in
necessitous cases the fees may be defrayed by the Council.
During the period under review no claims under this head were
made.
