INFESTATION BY HEAD LICE,.
This condition has been the subject of special comment
by the Ministry of Health, and in a circular (2831 - July,1943)
the Medical Officer of Health was asked to make special reference
in the Annual Report, to the steps taken in pursuance of the
circular.
The circular deals generally with the measures to be
undertaken to assist mothers and young children in the promotion
of cleanliness and good habits and the elimination of verminous
conditions. It is suggested that with regard to children
under 5 years, the Health Visitors should include the examination
of children's heads as part of their work both in the homes and
in the clinics. The Ministry of Health suggests also the
use of Lethane Hair Oil.
It is not possible to give specific results in regard to
action taken as part of the Maternity and Child "relfarc
scheme, but further and more complete data .as regards school
children will be found in the Roport of the School Medical
Officer.
A routine practice has been established of examining
children's heads, before admission to the war-time Nurseries,
and in addition the children's heads are combed thoroughly at
least once a week.
