(ii ) SLAUGHTERHOUSES. None of the three private slaughterhouses
which" was in use in 1938 is now licensed. Animals which are
brought to the Cattle Market as fatstock are sent to government
slaughter houses in other districts.

In all the ahove premises a reasonably high standard was
maintained in 1939, hut with the advent of war it became increasingly
difficult to do so owing to depleted staffs due to the
claims of National Service.
( C ) ADUJiPJRATIONETC .
The table on the preceding page gives details of the
samples taken and other action under the provisions of the Pood
& Drugs Act during each of the fiv-3 years. It should be noted
that your Corporation became the 'oods C: Drugs Authority for the
Borough on 1st October, 1939. Prior to that date the duties
were carried out by the Surrey County Council.
