Report of the
Chief Sanitary Inspector.
To the Mayor, Aldermen and Councillors,
Ladies and Gentlemen,
I beg to submit the Annual Report on the work carried
out by your Sanitary Inspectors during the year 1938, in
connection with the various Statutes and Byelaws relating
to Public Health in force within the Borough. The present
Report is the twentieth annual statement I have had the
honour to present to you, and it deals with matters coming
within Sections C, D and E of Circular 1728—Annual
Reports.
The total number of inspections and visits made during
the past year was 9646 as compared with 9944 during the
year 1937.
In the Register of Sanitary Defects, 663 new entries
were made, and 578 previous entries were cancelled following
upon compliance with notices served. On December
31st, 1938, 493 separate entries remained on the Register,
compared with 408 at the end of 1937.
Five hundred and fourteen "preliminary" and 51
verbal notices were served during 1938. In 42 instances
this informal action did not bring about the desired result
and it was necessary to serve "statutory" notices.
