At the end of the year there were 24 premises supplied
with water from private wells, but in all probability the
actual number of wells is less than the number of premises.
The bacteriological examinations of the waters is being
continued.
INCREASE OF RENT & MORTGAGE INTEREST
RESTRICTION ACTS
The small number of applications received for certificates
under Section 2 (2) of the Principal Act since the
Act was passed is not easily explained. The Act provides
that where the statutory increase (40%) of rent has been
paid in respect of a house and the house has not been
kept in a reasonable state of repair by the owner, the tenant
may apply to the local authority for a certificate which
should contain particulars as to what works of repair are
required.
Only 1 application was received during 1937, and a
certificate was not granted.
INSPECTION AND SUPERVISION OF FOOD
(a) MILK SUPPLY
The register of dairymen was again revised during
1937. Two names were removed either on account of
business changes or cessation of business, and 7 fresh entries
were added to the Register, leaving a total of 77 on the
Register at the end of the year, compared with 72 at the
end of 1936.
There is only one cowkeeper in the Borough.
