OVERCROWDING
Following the survey in connection with overcrowding,
to which reference was made in my report for 1936, it is
pleasing to be able to record that at the end of 1937, only
11 dwellings were known to be overcrowded in the Borough.
33 cases of overcrowding were relieved during the year,
and the number of new cases recorded was 5. Of the 33
cases of overcrowding abated, 12 were in part of the
Council's Housing-Estate situate within the Borough boundary,
and arrangements were made for the transfer of families
from non-parlour to parlour type houses, and it was not
necessary for new houses to be built in order to afford
relief.
In my previous Annual Report, 1 referred to the low
percentage of overcrowding (.75%), and your Corporation
may recall that I have expressed the view from time to time
that the position would be eased very considerably by action
on the part of the people themselves, and generally speaking,
1 feel these views have been justified.

Twenty-one such houses were reported upon during 1937 as set out below.
