In those cases where it is stated that the articles were
inspected and condemned, it is an indication that the condemnation
followed examination at the time of slaughter.
In the other cases the foodstuffs were submitted for examination
voluntarily.
The list shows the varied causes for condemnation and
in one respect needs comment. Under the heading Pork,
there is an item of 23 lbs. of pigs' trotters. A routine
visit was made to a Butcher's shop early one morning and
the trotters were "seized" as being unfit for human
consumption.
Subsequent investigation showed that the refrigerator
had broken down and apart from the food formally seized
a further large quantity was subsequently destroyed. Having
regard to the circumstances, no further action was taken
against the retailer.
