MATERNITY AND CHILD WELFARE.
(i) Mid-wives.
The Midwives are under the administrative control of
the Surrey County Council.
There we're ten registered as practising in the
Borough at the end of the year.
The Kingston Nursing Association, 33, Birkenhead
Avenue, undertake District Midwifery work.
(ii) Maternal Mortality.
The investigation into maternal deaths is carried out by
the Medical Officer of Health, who addresses confidential
reports to the Senior Medical Officer, Ministry of Health,
in the form specified by the Ministry.
Puerperal Fever and Puerperal Pyrexia.
During the year 19 cases were notified under the Public
Health (Notification of Puerperal Fever and Puerperal
Pyrexia) Regulations, 1926.
Immediate investigation was made into the circumstances
of each case, and a copy of the notification sent to
the County Medical Officer of Health.
Of the 19 cases notified, 16 were either admitted to, or
already in-patients at, the Kingston and District Hospital.
There was one death among these notified cases.
The consultant, Mr. Andrew McAllister, was not
summoned during the year.
(iii) Ante-Natal Services.
The Ante-Natal Centre was held three times a month
until April, when it was found necessary to hold a further
session per month owing to the large number of attendances.
Miss Beatrice Turner, M.B., F.R.C.S., (Edin.) presided
at the Centre and is recognised as Consultant Obstetrician
for the Borough.
