SPEECH TRAINING.
A class for children suffering from defective speech
is held on Monday and Wednesday afternoons. A
description of the work was set out in last year's Annual
Report.
Miss Badcock, who is in charge of the Class, reports
as follows:—
"Between January 1st, 1935 and December 31st, 1935,
twenty-six individual children attended the Class.
During this period six children were discharged and
returned to their schools with normal speech. Three children
left upon attaining the age of fourteen, and two more
left the district, leaving fifteen on the register at the end
of the year
The speech of the three children who left at the age of
fourteen was in every case much improved. In one case
the improvement was outstanding. A boy was admitted
suffering from a severe stammer and after a few months
treatment his speech was so much improved that he was
able to pass the oral examination for employment in the
General Post Office without any difficulty.
