MATERNITY AND CHILD WELFARE.
(i) Mid wives.
The Midwives are under the administrative control of
the Surrey County Council.
There were twelve registered as practising in the
Borough at the end of the year.
The Kingston Nursing Association, 33, Birkenhead
Avenue, undertake District Midwifery work.
(ii) Maternal Mortality.
The investigation into maternal deaths is carried out by
the Medical Officer of Health, who addresses confidential
reports to the Senior Medical Officer, Ministry of Health,
in the form specified by the Ministry.
During the year 8 cases were notified under the Public
Health (Notification of Puerperal Fever and Puerperal
Pyrexia) Regulations, 1926.
Immediate investigation was made into the circumstances
of each case, and a copy of the notification sent to
the County Medical Officer of Health.
Of the 8 cases notified, 6 were either admitted to or
already in-patients at the Kingston and District Hospital.
There was no death among these notified cases.
The consultant, Mr. Andrew McAllister, was not
summoned during the year.
(iii) Ante-Natal Services.
The Ante-Natal Centre was held fortnightly until
April, when it was found necessary to hold a further
session per month owing to the large number of attendances.
