RE-ORGANISATION OF COUNCIL SCHOOLS.
In August 1932 as a first stage towards the re-organisation
of the Council Schools of the Borough along the lines
laid down in the Report of the Board of Education
Consultative Committee "The Education of the Adolescent,"
the departments at the two Council Schools were
re-organised so as to provide separate departments for
children over the age of eleven.
At Bonner Hill Road School the Girls' Department
became a school for senior girls, to which girls over eleven
years of age who had previously attended Richmond Road
School and Bonner Hill Road School were drawn, and the
Boys' Department become a Junior Mixed School for those
children between the ages of seven-and-a-half and eleven
years of age who had previously attended' Bonner Hill
Road School. At Richmond Road School t he Girls'
Department became a school for senior boys, to which were
drawn all those boys over eleven years of age who had
previously attended Richmond Road and Bonner Hill Road
Schools. The Boys' Department became a Junior Mixed
School for those children between the ages of seven-and'-ahalf
and eleven who had previously attended Richmond
Road School. At each school the Infants' Department
remained unaffected.
By this re-organisation the Council Schools came into
line with the Church Schools which were already
re-organised into Infant and Junior Schools, and Senior
Departments for boys and girls over the age of eleven.
The re-organisation of both Church and Council
Schools affects the School Medical Service, since children
attending the Senior Schools are now drawn from all parts
of the Borough.
Formerly a School Nurse had a visiting area limited
to the district immediately surrounding her School, whereas
under the new arrangement, School Nurses in charge of
Senior Schools each make following-up visits throughout
the whole area,
