The number of premises known to be supplied with
water from wells at the end of 1933 was 38, which compares
with 271 in 1919.
Samples were chemically examined by Mr. P. G. Lloyd
during the year.
Suspicious waters, are sent to the Clinical Research
Association for bacteriological examination.
(ii) Drainage and Sewerage.
Last year a brief summary was given of schemes
carried out for the improvement of surface and foul water
sewers for the relief of flooding.
Upon extension of the Borough, works were commenced
in order to take the sewage from the Ham area
to the Corporation Sewage Works, and also to sewer the
Park Road area where drainage was into cesspools.
It is anticipated that these works should be completed
by March 1934.
The construction of necessary additional manholes on
existing sewers was commenced, and will be continued until
a satisfactory scheme is completed.
Various small improvements have been carried out with
a view to improving the flow in both foul and surface water
sewers.
During the year the remaining section of the Latchmere
Ditch was piped in.
(iii) Rivers and Streams.
The effluent from the Corporation's Sewage Works discharges
into the River Thames, and complies with the
standard fixed by the Thames Conservancy.
A Joint Scheme is still under consideration with regard
to the Hogg's Mill Stream, which receives the sewage
effluents from Maiden, Epsom and Ewell, before traversing
the Borough to flow into the Thames.
