SMOKE ABATEMENT.
The number of complaints received during' 1930 in
respect of alleged nuisance from smoke was five. Nine
formal observations were made and in several instances
excessive amounts of smoke were recorded.
It is evident that the campaign, which is being waged
against the pollution of the atmosphere by industrial smoke,
is having some effect. In a few instances works managers
have sought advice as to the best practicable means to
