Ten persons were added to the Register during- the year.
On December 31st there were 36 persons registered in
the Borough under the above Orders. Of these 36 only 2
were registered as cowkeepers.
There were no applications during the year for liccnces
to sell graded milk.
Disinfection.
Two hundred and seven rooms have been disinfected
in 179 houses during 1923, as compared with 383 rooms in
336 houses during 1922.
This reduction is due to the fewer cases of infectious
disease notified during the year.
The Council possesses a "Velox" High-Pressure Steam
Disinfecting Apparatus, which is contained in a convenient
building adjacent to the Electricity Works. Steam for use
in connection with the apparatus is obtained from the
Electricity Works, and is available at all times. The
erection of the premises and machine was completed in May,
1921, and during the year 1923, 1,185 articles were passed
through the apparatus.
In addition, all infected rooms and furniture, etc., were
sprayed and fumigated with Formalin.
The Council also possesses a motor ambulance, which
is constructed for the dual purpose of removing patients to
Hospital and for the conveying of infected bedding, etc.,
to and from the disinfecting station.
Twenty-seven patients were removed in this ambulance
last year.
House Drainage.
Twenty-three houses were redrained during the year.
An investigation into the condition of an old drain situated
at the rear of the odd numbered premises in Washington
Road, was made during the year. In connection with
this examination it was necessary to examine the drains,
etc., of 23 houses under the powers conferred upon the Corporation
by Section 41 of the P.H.A., 1875, and the amending
Acts.
The examination disclosed the fact that this old drain
was composed of 12-inch unglazed channel pipes without
sockets or joints. At the time of examination the sewage
