3.-OUTWORKERS
The numbers of outworkers notified to the Authority during the period under review were as
follows
1960 1961
Number of outworkers 258 224
All outworkers were engaged in the making of wearing apparel and all premises were satisfactory.
PUBLIC SWIMMING BATHS
The only public swimming baths in the area are those owned and operated by the Authority. There
are two swimming baths and slipper bath and vapour bath suites housed in a building adjacent to the Town Hall.
The major bath is 120 ft. long and 40 ft. wide; the minor bath 75 ft. long and 30 ft. wide. The
water used for filling is drawn from the Metropolitan Water Board's mains. Treatment of the water is by
pressure sand filters and chlorination, the "turn over" period being approximately four hours. Normal water
temperature is 74° Fahrenheit.
Samples of water from the baths were submitted for analysis as follows
Major Bath - 22.6.60
Minor Bath - 22.6.60, 19.6.61 and 16.7.61
The analyst's reports indicated that the water was suitable for bathing purposes at all times.
