(B) Notices
There were 1,161 preliminary notices served during the year 758 of which were complied with.
In addition 397 statutory notices were served and 349 of these were complied with. Complaints made
to the Department with regard to sanitary circumstances, disrepair, infestations, obstructed drains
etc., totalled 2,312.
(C) Rodent Control
Complaints received in respect of rat and mouse infestation numbered 341. 428 premises were
inspected. The rodent operative made 1950 visits.
(D) Disinfection and Disinfestation
537 premises were treated in respect of infectious diseases, bugs and dirty conditions, also
because of beetle infestation. Clothing and bedding was disinfected by the steam disinfector which
was used on 97 days. 776 library books from households where infectious disease etc., had occurred
were disinfected before return to the libraries. Sterilisation or disinfection of all articles
returned to the Health Department "loan cupboard" after use by ailing or disabled persons, was carried
out.
