PUBLIC SWIMMING BATHS
The only public swimming baths in the area are those owned and operated by the Authority. There
are two swimming baths and slipper bath and vapour bath suites housed in a building adjacent to the Town
Hall.
The major bath is 120 ft. long and 40 ft. wide; the minor bath 75 ft. long and 30 ft. wide. The
water used for filling is drawn from the Metropolitan Water Board's mains. Treatment of the water is by
pressure sand filters and chlorination, the "turn over" period being approximately four hours. Normal
water temperature is 74 Fahrenheit.
Samples of water from the baths were submitted for analysis as follows
Major Bath - 21.5.59
Minor Bath - 21.5.59 and 1 6.11.59
The analyst's reports indicated that the water was suitable for bathing purposes at all times.
