INSPECTION AND SUPERVISION OF FOOD
(a) Milk Supply - The number of milk distributors registered at the close
of the year was 153, and the number of dairies 11.
The following licences were issued to use special designations prescribed
in the Milk (Special Designation) Regulations 1949-50

There were 92 samples submitted for chemical analysis i,e, fat content
etc., all of which were satisfactory.
(b) Meat and Other Foods
(i) Meat Inspection
There were nearly 90 butchers premises in the town during the year
and generally they were very well maintained. The Inspectors were
frequently called in by the trade to examine meat for unsoundness or
disease and 5,286 lbs of meat and 22 chickens weighing 90 lbs. were certified
as unfit for human consumption.
The transport of meat is still unsatisfactory in many cases, and the
attention of the responsible authority was called where necessary to
unhygienic practices during the transport and delivery of meatstuffs.
(ii) Other Foods
The Sanitary Inspectors are called upon to examine a great variety of
foodstuffs and during the year the following comnodlties were certified as
unfit for human consumption.
