The above figures record the main causes of eye defects, and where
these differ in respect of each eye both causes have been included.
Of the 39 cases of blindness certified during the year, 7 were advised
by the Ophthalmologist to have treatment, either surgical or medical. in
two instances the person was undergoing hospital treatment at the time, and
in the other five cases a letter was given to the patient by the examining
Ophthalmologist and an appointment made for hospital treatment, by the Home
Teacher.
