Conditions, particularly in some of the older schools, are still far from
satisfactory. A mother will obviously be unwilling to discuss a child's
behaviour problems within earshot of other parents, and it is similarly
difficult for the health visitor to obtain certain information without a
degree of privacy for her interview. In order to obtain full benefit from
the inspections the following accommodation is needed
(1) Waiting space for pupils and parents.
(2) Health Visitor's room for interviewing parents, weighing children,
testing eyesight, etc.,
(3) Undressing room.
(4) Doctor's examination room, which should provide hand-washing
facilities.
Some Head Teachers put themselves to considerable inconvenience in order
to afford these facilities, and they may be assured that this results in a
greatly enhanced value of the medical inspections.
The inspections carried out during the year in the various schools are
tabulated below, A detailed analysis of the findings appears in the
Appendix. (Tables 51-53).
