NATIONAL HEALTH SERVICE
ACT, 1946
SECTIONS 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, 27, 28, 29 and 51.
Full details of the Council's proposals approved by the Minister of
Health, as Indicated in my report for 1948, have been published in booklet
form and are available for reference.
SECTION 22 - CARE OF MOTHERS AND YOUNG CHILDREN.
Dr. Allan Ross, the Senior Dental Ofiicer submits the following report
in respect of the dental treatment provided for expectant and nursing
mothers and young children :-
During the year under review, there were more considerable changes in
the dental staff.
There was a tremendous demand for dental treatment and the difficulty
in obtaining treatment for young children outside the Priority Service, was
more marked.
The charges imposed for dentures provided under the General Dental
Services were eventually reflected in the dentures constructed in the
Authority's Clinics. Although only 8 partial dentures were made most of
them were inserted towards the end of the year.
There were no facilities for X-ray examination and I regret to say
that the local hospital did not see their way to co-operate in this
matter.
