POPULATION.
On 8th April 1951, the fifteenth Census of the population of England
and Wales was conducted, the first for twenty years.
The preliminary report of the Registrar General, published in June 1951, quotes the following figures for East Ham with comparative statistics for 1931.

Since 1931 therefore, the population of East Ham has decreased by
21,521 or 15.1% of the 1931 population.
The Registrar General has also supplied an estimate of population as
at 30th June 1951, which shows that the home population (all ages) Including
members of the armed forces stationed In the area totalled 120,500,. The
rates per 1,000 population quoted in this report are based on this estimate.
