The crude death rare was 10.7. The Registrar-General has now
again supplied an area comparability factor and that for East Ham is 1.04.
The corrected death rate is, therefore, the crude death rate (10.7)
multiplied by 1.04 - 11.13.
For the period 1945- 1949 the death rates for England and Wales
and East Ham are compared :-

Reference to table 3 will shew a different classification of the
deaths occurring in 1950 from that of previous years, such changes in
practice arise from the implementation of the World Health Organisation
Nomenclature Regulations 1948. It is important to note that 1950 deaths
include "non civilians" which were not included previously.
INFANTILE MORTALITY.
Deaths of Infants under one year numbered 45 - equivalent to an
infant mortality rate of 25 per 1,000 live births, the rate for the previous
year was 24.
The rate for England and Wales for 1950 was 29.8.
The number of deaths of illegitimate children under one year of
age was 4 out of a total of 64 Illegitimate live births, giving a mortality
rate of 62 as compared with a figure of 30 per 1,000 Illegitimate live
births for the year 1949.
The infantile mortality rates since 1946 are as follows :-

NEO-NATAL MORTALITY
Children dying under the age of one month totalled 29, equal
to a neo-natal mortality rate of 16.6 per 1,000 live births.
