TREATMENT OF TUBERCULOSIS.
Memorandum 226/T.
Maintenance allowances to patients suffering from pulmonary
tuberculosis receiving treatment from the Tuberculosis and Chest
Clinic and institutional treatment were paid to 141 patients during
the year in accordance with the terms of the Circular.
TUBERCULOSIS AND CHEST CLINIC.
Notifications.
The number of primary notifications of all forms of tuberculosis
during 1947 was 300 as compared with 257 for the previous year.
Of the primary notifications of pulmonary tuberculosis 20.5 per
cent, had tubercle bacilli in the sputum.
The number of such notifications for the years since 1943 are shewn below :—

Statistical.
The total number of notified cases on the register of the clinic
on 31/12/47 was 1,242 (pulmonary and non-pulmonary) or 10.4
per 1,000 of the estimated population as compared with 1,175 or
10.3 per 1,000 population in 1946.
