The number of sessions devoted to treatment of mothers and
children was 96.
Administration of Analgesics.
Number of midwives in practice in the area qualified to
administer analgesics in accordance with the requirements of the
Central Midwives' Board:—
(i) Domiciliary 6
(ii) In institutions 5
The Central Midwives Board during the year approved
Aldersbrook Maternity Hospital as an institution to give courses
of instruction in the administration of analgesics and at the end
of 1947 two of the municipal midwives had undertaken such courses
(2 midwives appointed during the year already held the certificate).
No facilities are provided for midwives to undertake courses of
instruction on the district.
Five sets of apparatus have been provided for the use of the
municipal midwives.
During 1947, no analgesics were administered in domiciliary
practice.
NOTE.—In the early part of 1948 the remaining municipal
midwives attended the above courses of instruction and are now
qualified to administer analgesics.
