(5) Fertilisers and Feeding Stuffs.—3 samples were taken
during the year, and were found to be satisfactory.
(6) Other Foods.—Considerable time and attention was given
to the examination of tinned foods and the co-operation of the
local tradesmen in notifying this Department of any foodstuffs
which they suspected as being unsound, was appreciated. This
examination resulted in the condemnation for human consumption
of 6,606 tins, including 561 tins of meat and meat products, 248 tins
of fruit, 1,040 tins of fish, 3,111 tins of milk and 1,646 tins or
packages of other foods. In addition, the following foodstuffs were
condemned as unfit for human consumption, meat 833 lbs., fish
498 lbs., fruit 1,465 lbs., sugar 436 lbs., fats 137 lbs., eggs 1,882,
cheese 136 lbs., other foodstuffs 263 lbs.
(c) Adulteration.
Systematic sampling has been carried out during the year
including Sundays and special attention has been directed to
obtaining samples of all supplies of milk coming into the borough.
The number of samples taken and the Public Analyst's results are
shown in the following table:—
