TREATMENT OF TUBERCULOSIS.
Memorandum 226/T.
Maintenance allowances to patients suffering from pulmonary
tuberculosis receiving treatment from the Tuberculosis and Chest
Clinic and Institutional treatment were paid to 133 patients during
the year in accordance with the terms of the Circular.
TUBERCULOSIS AND CHEST CLINIC.
Notifications.
The number of primary notifications of all forms of tuberculosis
during 1946 was 257 as compared with 258 for the previous year. Of
the primary notifications of pulmonary tuberculosis 18.4 per cent.
had tubercle bacilli in the sputum.
The number of such notifications for the years since 1942 are
shewn below:—

Statistical.
The total number of notified cases on the register of the clinic on
31-12-46 was 1,175 (pulmonary and non-pulmonary) or 10.3 per 1,000
of the estimated population as compared with 1,095 or 11.5 per 1,000
population in 1945.
