INFECTIOUS DISEASES HOSPITAL.
Dr. Cohn's observations are contained in the following report
upon the work of the hospital:—
The number of cases admitted to the Isolation Hospital during
the year 1946 was 275. The number of deaths was two, giving a
mortality rate of under 1 per cent. Both occurred within 24 hours of
admission. One patient died of streptococcal septicaemia and the
other of whooping cough and broncho-pneumonia, confirmed by postmortem.
There were no cases of typhoid fever or infantile paralysis.
A number of pneumonias, 3 diphtheria, one streptococcal
septicaemia and severe tonsillitis cases were treated with 3—4 hourly
penicillin injections.
The existing accommodation seemed to be adequate although
twelve beds were separated from the infectious Diseases Hospital in
March, 1946 and added to the Sanatorium.
The number of patients in hospital on 1st January, 1946 was 22,
the number on 31st December, 1946, was 8.

Up to 10,000 units A.D.S. 15
Up to 30,000 units A.D.S. 21
Up to 50,000 units A.D. S. 14
Over 50,000 units A.D.S. 4
No serum reactions of any importance were observed.
