Note:- Included in figures "Discharged after treatment" are some defects still
remaining under treatment at the end of 1945.
Of the cases referred for operative treatment, 273 were for the
removal of tonsils and adenoids, one for mastoidectomy and one for
the removal of a polypus in the ear of, a deaf child. The mastoidectomy
was performed by Mr. Savege at the Children's Hospital, Balaam
Street; the polypus was still awaiting treatment at the end of the year.
Mr. Savege is also approved by the Minister under Regulation
53 (a) and (b) for the ascertainment, examination and treatment of
deaf and partially deaf pupils. As reported on page 84 one child was
examined during the year, ascertained, and recommended for a
boarding special school for deaf pupils.
Ophthalmic Clinic.
Mr. S. C. Reeve-FIaxman, M.R.C.S., L.R.C.P., approved for
the treatment of defective vision and eye disease under the provisions
of Regulation 53 (c), now attends the Ophthalmic Clinic on five sessions
fortnightly, an additional session in alternate weeks having been
introduced during the year.
