INFANTILE MORTALITY.
The number of deaths of children under one year of age was 59,
equal to an infantile mortality rate of 31 per 1,000 live births (48
for 1943), the rate for England and Wales being 46 per 1,000 related
births.
NEO-NATAL MORTALITY.
Children dying under the age of one month totalled 33, equal
to a neo-natal mortality rate of 17.3 per 1,000 live births. The
rate for the previous year was 23.5.
MATERNAL MORTALITY.
Maternal deaths numbered 6, the rate for 1944 being 3.14 per
1,000 live births and 3.06 per 1,000 live and still births.

The Registrar General's estimate of the civilian population for
1944 is 91,060. The figure for the year 1943 was 92,800.
